Decorative Concrete

Derek Jensen began pouring concrete in 2001, eventually striking out on his own in October 2014 with nothing but a pickup truck and a strong back. Over a decade later, the jobs are bigger, the patterns are more complex, and the crew has grown—but the approach hasn't changed.

Our Story

Built on Hands-On Craftsmanship

Derek Jensen has been pouring concrete since 2001, but he officially launched Jensen Decorative Concrete in October 2014 with nothing more than a pickup truck and a strong work ethic. What began as straightforward flatwork quickly evolved as Derek developed a passion for the art of decorative concrete — stamped patterns, integral coloring, and finishes that turn plain gray slabs into something worth showing off.

Over a decade later, the jobs are bigger and the patterns are more complex, but the approach hasn't changed. Derek still runs every pour himself because that's the only way to guarantee the finished product matches the estimate. No subcontractors, no surprises, and a crew of 5 that treats your property like their own.

Homeowners around Lake Minnetonka, Wayzata, and the western suburbs know that concrete here has to handle more than foot traffic — it has to survive freeze-thaw cycles on clay-heavy soil. That's why every Jensen project starts with proper subgrade compaction and uses air-entrained mixes rated for Minnesota's climate.

The Crew

Meet the Team

A 5-person crew means you'll see the same faces from the first visit to the final seal coat. Every question goes straight to the people doing the work — no call center, no project manager relay.

Derek Jensen

Owner / Founder

Derek has spent 25 years pouring, stamping, and finishing decorative concrete across the Twin Cities. He runs every job site personally — setting grades, timing stamps, and checking finish quality. No subcontractors. No delegation of the work that matters most.

The Jensen Team

Office & Field Crew

Mckayla Jensen manages the office, handles scheduling, and is your first point of contact when you call or submit a quote request. The field crew is a tight group of 4 that has worked alongside Derek long enough to anticipate the next step before he calls it. Stable crews build better concrete.

The Jensen Difference

Why Homeowners Choose Jensen Decorative Concrete

Plenty of concrete contractors serve the metro. Here's what separates a decorative concrete specialist from a general flatwork crew.

Owner on Every Job

Derek Jensen is on every job site — not occasionally, not for the walkthrough, but for the full pour. That direct oversight is why problems get solved in the moment, not discovered after the crew leaves.

Specialist, Not Generalist

About 75% of Jensen's work is decorative — stamped, colored, and patterned concrete. That focus means Derek has poured more stamped patios and decorative driveways than most general contractors see in a career.

Quality Over Volume

A 5-person crew can only take on so many projects at a time. That's intentional. Smaller volume means each project gets full attention, start to finish, with no rushing to make room for the next one.

Local Roots in Cologne, MN

Based in Cologne, right in Carver County. Most projects are within an hour's drive — Minnetonka, Excelsior, Waconia, Eden Prairie, and the surrounding communities. These are your neighbors building your patio.

Our Commitment

Built for Minnesota Conditions

Clay soils, freeze-thaw cycles, and a short pour season from April through November define how concrete performs here. Every Jensen project starts with proper subgrade compaction and uses air-entrained mixes rated for our climate. That's not a sales pitch — it's the bare minimum for concrete that lasts in Minnesota.

Expert Craftsmanship

Pattern alignment, color consistency, and stamp timing all come down to 25 years of hands-on experience.

Careful with Your Property

Extra care to protect your lawn, landscaping, and existing surfaces. The goal is a finished project that looks like only the new concrete was touched.

Licensed & Insured

Full licensing and insurance coverage gives you peace of mind that your property and project are fully protected.
